I could feel the heat radiating off him—a wall of oppressive authority that smelled like ozone and expensive leather. He was a predator in a tailored uniform. I was just a Lower Ring rat caught in his trap. "You're a fixer, Nora Quinn," he murmured. His voice was a low, dangerous vibration against my ear. "Illegal rigs. Stolen cores. Now step away from the panel. Slowly." "I can't," I hissed. I glanced at the rig. A surge of lethal violet energy was climbing the conduits, screaming like a dying animal.
