"She saved us." One of the hunters said it again, louder this time, and Anna's gun didn't move but her eyes did, flicking to his blood-streaked face like she wanted to shoot him too.
Mika kept her arm locked under Cade's ribs, holding his slumped body against her back. She had nothing left. Not one drop. Her wrist was black and cracked where the mark had burned clean through skin, and every breath felt borrowed.
"Anna." She said the name flat, not begging. "Look at him. You want to be the one who finishes what the crash started?"
"Don't." Anna's voice cracked on the word. "Don't put this on me. You're the one who dragged my fiance into a dead man's Bond."
"He's not dead."
"Not yet."
The second hunter stepped forward, hands up, no weapon in them. "Ma'am. She pulled all three of us out of that wreck. I watched her do it with her bare hands."
"I didn't ask for your opinion." Anna's aim didn't waver. "I asked for the girl."
The third hunter, the youngest one, still had ash in his hair. "She's got nothing left. Look at her. She can't even stand straight.
