"Get away from me!" Vivian slammed her palm against the emergency lock, but the door refused to open.

I dragged the clone backward by the collar of its white coat. Its boots scraped across the metal floor. The thing wore my old face, my old eyes, even the small scar over the left brow.

A perfect fake.

I pulled harder.

The clone clawed at my wrist. "Kane, stop! You know me!"

"You know my face," I rasped.

My voice came out broken, layered with static. Half beast. Half man. Neither one belonged in this room.

Vivian spun from the lock. Her silver control band flashed around her wrist. "Release it. Now."

"You still giving orders?"

"Yes. Because I built the restraint grid under your feet. One command, and it cooks your nervous system." She lifted her wrist. Her fingers hovered over the band. "You want to test me?"

The clone smiled through my stolen mouth. "See? She still owns you."

That smile did it.

I slammed the clone into the wall.

The glass behind it cracked in a spiderweb. Vivian flinched, but she did not look away.
