Chapter 47 · What did you see?
I reached for her.
The vision snapped apart.
I slammed onto the stone.
Dax dropped beside me. "What did you see?"
"Get away."
"What did you see?"
"My sister."
His expression changed so fast I almost missed it.
Not pity. Recognition.
I grabbed his collar. "You know something."
"Not here."
"You know something about Lena."
"Mara, listen to me. The third mark controls recall. It can show you what the chamber wants you to see."
"That was her."
"It may have been a memory. It may have been bait."
"You looked at me like you recognized the room."
His jaw locked.
I pulled him closer. "Tell me."
"Let go."
"Tell me what she said to you."
The mark on my shoulder flared.
The kitchen came back, sharper this time. Lena stood by the ninth door. Her lips moved, but the chamber twisted her voice into static.
Dax's hand closed around my wrist. "Mara, stop listening."
"Why?"
"Because it's not showing you the whole thing."
"What did you see?"
"I saw you die."
That stopped me.
His eyes held mine. No dodge. No hard command.
