Bloodborn Mate Contract

Chapter 6 · Drag Him Home

His blood's all over my hands and the bond won't shut up about it.

I've got Cain's arm slung across my shoulders and he's heavy, dead weight dragging me sideways every three steps. The hunter line's still hooked into his ribs just under the left shoulder blade and every time he breathes the barbed wire shifts and I can feel it like it's in my own skin. That's the bond doing its thing, bleeding his pain into me, and I want to claw it out but I need both hands to keep him upright.

We're two blocks from where they yanked him through the window. I cut the line with a piece of broken glass from the alley but the hook's still in him and it's leaking silver into his system. Silver doesn't kill wolves outright but it slows everything down, makes the healing crawl, makes you feel like you're drowning in your own body. He's panting against my neck and his skin's cold and I hate that I know exactly how cold because the bond keeps shoving his sensations at me like I asked for them.

I didn't ask for any of this.

"Stop," he mutters.
