Moonlit Verdict

Chapter 11 · Moonmark Burn

"Stop looking at me like that."

Kael didn't move from the doorway. "Like what?"

"Like you're waiting for me to crawl to you." Sienna pressed her back harder against the kitchen counter. The safehouse was supposed to be neutral ground. Three rooms and nowhere to hide from the bond burning under her ribs.

"You are crawling." He stepped in. "Just slower than your wolf wants."

The moonmark on her wrist flared hot. She'd rolled her sleeves down an hour ago to cover it, but the fabric did nothing for the ache spreading up her arm. "My wolf doesn't get a vote."

"Your wolf's in pain."

"My wolf can suffer."

Kael stopped three feet away. Close enough that she felt the pull like a fishhook in her sternum. "How long do you think you can keep this up?"

"As long as it takes."

"For what? Me to leave? I'm not leaving. Lockwood saw to that when he put a bullet in me yesterday." He touched his side where the bandage still showed through his shirt. "You patched me up. You felt it then, didn't you? When your hands were on me."

She had.
