Bloodline Curse

Chapter 13 · The Gatekeeper's Proof

The silence after Morgana's recording ended was the kind that made my ears ring.

I stood in the center of the pack hall with every eye on me. The footage had frozen on the last frame—my younger face, hand on the gate latch, wolves streaming past me into the compound. Kade hadn't moved from where he'd been standing when the screen went dark. Silas looked like someone had punched him in the gut. Marcus was smiling, and that was somehow worse than the hate.

"Well." Morgana's voice cut through the quiet. "I believe that answers the question of whose side she was on."

Kade's jaw tightened. He still wasn't looking at me.

"We leave at dawn," Morgana continued, tucking the tablet back into her coat. "Pack whatever you need for a three-day journey. The council doesn't care for delays."

She turned on her heel and walked out. Two of her guards followed. The third stayed by the door, arms crossed, watching me like I might bolt.

I wasn't going to run. Where the hell would I go?

The pack started moving again, slow at first, then all at once. Voices rose. Someone spat on the floor near my feet.
