Chapter 26 · Dangerous Sedative
"Do you like it? Knowing I’m pathetic without you?"
Kane’s voice was a low, dangerous rasp against my ear. He didn't just have me pinned—he had me crushed. The cold stone pillar bit into my back, his heavy frame erasing every inch of air between us. His fingers dug into my wrists, locking them above my head. One squeeze and he’d leave bruises. I knew it. He knew I knew.
Heat radiated off him in waves. He smelled like ozone and old blood. Violent. Feverish.
"I don't like it," I snapped. My breath came in shallow hitches. "I hate it. I hate that you think you own me just because I can stop the screaming in your head."
Kane let out a sound—half-laugh, half-growl. He shifted, driving his thigh firmly between mine, forcing my back to arch against the stone. The friction of his leather trousers against my skin sent a jolt through me that had nothing to do with fear.
"Liar," he whispered. His lips barely grazed the sensitive skin of my neck. "Your heart is hammering like a trapped bird. You love the power. You love knowing the Savage King is nothing but a dog on your leash."
