Borrowed Time, Blood Debt

Chapter 17 · Untitled Chapter

"Don't move." Sienna's hand clamped around my wrist before I could cross the gallery.

Mia stood twenty feet away behind the glass partition, gun raised at the empty stage where Marcus had vanished. Her shoulders were tight. Her countdown burned above her head: forty-two minutes.

"Val," Sienna said. "Don't spook her."

"That's my sister."

"I know."

I twisted toward her. "You know? You've known this whole time and you—"

"She asked me not to tell you." Sienna's grip dug into my skin. "Six years ago, Mia asked me to keep her dead. I did."

Mia turned toward the service door behind the stage.

"Let go."

"Not until you listen. She's armed, and she just tried to kill Marcus. She doesn't know you're in this loop."

"Then I'll tell her."

"She won't believe you. I didn't."

That stopped me. Mia had spent six years hiding from Marcus. A stranger claiming to be her sister would sound like another trap, especially after the gunfire.

"So what am I supposed to do?" My voice cracked. "Watch her leave?"

"No. We follow her. Quietly."

Sienna released me and slipped toward the glass. I followed, because standing there was worse.
