Chapter 27 · Make Him Pay

"You're awake."

Sienna's voice cuts through the ringing in my ears before I even open my eyes. I'm on the penthouse floor again. Blood on my hands. The same blood.

"How many times?" she asks.

I push myself up. My vision's blurry at the edges, like looking through a fogged window. "Enough."

"That's not an answer."

"Twenty-seven." I wipe my palms on my jeans. The blood smears but doesn't come off. It never does. "This is twenty-seven."

Sienna's standing by the window, backlit by the city. Her timer reads 47:22:11. Forty-seven hours. Marcus gave us that when he reset her clock, right before he blew us both to hell.

"He's not coming for another six hours," I say. "We have time."

"Time for what?" Sienna turns. There's no fear in her face. Just that same cold calculation. "You want to run? Hide? Beg Marcus for mercy?"

"I want to make him pay."

She laughs. It's a short, sharp sound. "With what? Your ability to die over and over? That's worked so well."

I get to my feet. The floor tilts. I catch myself on the arm of the couch. "I need Juno."
