Chapter 7 · The Debt With Her Name
"You watched her die."
Sienna doesn't move. She's standing by the shattered window, glass dust still glittering on her shoulders, and she looks at me like I just said the sky is blue.
"I watched a lot of people die," she says.
"Don't."
I cross the distance between us fast. My hand slams into the wall beside her head. She doesn't flinch. Doesn't even blink.
"Don't give me that cold bitch routine," I say. "Not about Mia."
Her jaw tightens. Just a fraction. But I see it.
"Your sister made her choice," Sienna says. "I didn't pull the trigger."
"But you know who did."
Silence.
I lean in closer. Close enough to see the tiny scar at the corner of her mouth. Close enough to feel the heat coming off her skin. She smells like smoke and expensive perfume and something metallic I can't name.
"You're protecting someone," I say. "Someone who killed her. And you've been sitting on that secret for six years."
"You don't know what you're talking about."
"Then tell me I'm wrong."
Her eyes flicker. Gold in the dim light. She opens her mouth, closes it again.
That's when I know.
She's not protecting the killer.
