Chapter 9 · Don't Save Her
"Go." Sienna's hand shoves my shoulder hard. "She's right there."
I'm staring across the street at Mia. Six years. Six fucking years and she's standing under a burnt-out streetlight like she never left, like she didn't wreck my entire life by vanishing.
"Val." Sienna's voice sharpens. "You have thirty seconds before she bolts."
But Sienna's timer's at four minutes. The steel beam above us is groaning, cables snapped, the whole loading dock frame about to come down. Marcus is gone—ran the second the first support gave—but the trap he set is still live.
"I can't—"
"You can." Sienna's already bracing her shoulder under the beam, boots scraping concrete as she plants her weight. "I'll hold it. Go get your sister."
Mia's watching us. Not moving. Just watching, and I can't read her face from here but I know that expression, the one she used to wear when she was deciding whether to lie to me.
"Four minutes," I say. "You've got four minutes left and this thing's coming down in two."
"Then you better run fast." Sienna's arms are shaking already, tendons standing out in her neck. "She's the only one who knows what happened. You said so yourself.
