Bound by the Blood Moon

Chapter 17 · Silver Eyes at the Well

Kade's claws are at my throat.

I don't move. I don't breathe. His eyes are silver now, all the way through, no pupil, no iris, just that cold flat shine like someone pulled the person out and left the wolf running the show.

"Kade." I say it quiet. My voice shakes anyway.

He doesn't blink. His hand is steady. The tips of his claws press into my skin, not breaking it yet, but I can feel the heat of him, the way his chest is heaving like he just ran ten miles. Blood is still dripping from the gash on his side, the one Theron opened up before he threw him into the Well.

The Well is behind him. It's not glowing anymore. It's just a hole in the ground now, dark and still, except for the faint ripple on the surface like something moved underneath.

I swallow. His claws dig in a little more.

"Kade, it's me."

Nothing. Not even a flicker.

I don't know what Theron did. I don't know what his blood did to the Well, or what the Well did to Kade when it pulled him under. But this isn't him.
