Ryan was waiting outside my apartment with a duffel bag and that look he used to get when he thought he knew better than me.
I stopped three steps from the door. My phone said six forty-two a.m. I hadn't slept. The bite mark on my neck was hot enough to make me sweat through my shirt, and every time I closed my eyes I saw Kade going pale, blood on his mouth, telling me every rogue in the city could smell me now.
"Lena." Ryan straightened off the wall. He looked good. Clean. Like someone who hadn't spent the night wondering if a wolf pack was going to rip through his door. "We need to talk."
"No," I said. I fished my keys out. My hand shook. I hated that he saw it.
"Five minutes." He stepped closer. The duffel clinked. Metal on metal. "I know what's happening to you."
I stopped.
"Kade Locke," Ryan said. His voice dropped. "Blood bond. Thirty days. Am I close?"
My stomach dropped. I turned. "How do you—"
"Because I've been looking into him since the night you blew me off at Harlow's." Ryan's jaw was tight. "You think I didn't notice?
