Chapter 10 · No Safe House
Rex shoved me into the backseat before Cain could argue.
The engine roared. We tore out of the clearing, branches scraping metal, the cabin already burning behind us.
"They tagged the perimeter." Rex's knuckles were white on the wheel. "Knew we were coming."
Cain twisted around from the passenger seat. Blood still smeared his palm where I'd touched him. "You said this place was off-grid."
"It was." Rex's jaw tightened. "Someone sold us out."
I pressed against the door, trying to catch my breath. My wolf was still awake under my ribs—pacing, snarling. The heat in my veins hadn't faded. Every bump in the road sent another wave through me, and I could feel both of them noticing. Cain's eyes flicking to me in the rearview. Rex's shoulders going rigid every time I shifted.
The scanner. The hunters had pointed it at my arm and the whole thing lit up like a beacon.
They'd said my bloodline mark was awake.
I didn't even know I had one.
"Where are we going?" I managed.
Rex didn't answer. He yanked the wheel hard and we skidded onto a service road, half-overgrown, no signs. The headlights cut through trees and then—nothing.
