Caged By The Alpha

Chapter 20 · The Border Seal

"We move now." Cain shoved himself upright, one hand clamped over the silver wound in his side. Blood soaked through his shirt and ran between his fingers, but he stayed on his feet. "Two miles. That's all we've got."

I stared at the red map pulsing across the rock wall. The glowing line ended at the border seal.

Rex was already there.

"He knows we're coming," I said. My hands still shook from what I'd done. My blood had drawn the map. My blood had stopped a bullet. My blood had sealed Cain's wound. "He's waiting at the exit."

"I know." Cain grabbed Mara's rifle and checked the chamber. Two rounds. "You think I don't know?"

"I think you're bleeding silver."

"And I think you can complain while walking."

He headed for the tunnel mouth.

I followed, because the alternative was staying in Ashridge until every hunter in three states came for me.

The blood map flickered behind us, then vanished. I didn't need it anymore. The path was burned into my head—two miles northeast, through the old mining pass, past the collapsed shaft where the pack buried its dead.

Straight into Rex's teeth.

"What's the plan?" I asked.
