Condemned Starlight

Chapter 34 · Her Father's Door

Senna wouldn't stop looking at me.

We were three hours out from the moon facility, crammed in a stolen shuttle that smelled like burnt plastic and someone else's fear, and she kept glancing over like she wanted to say something. Like she was waiting for me to ask.

I didn't ask.

"Kira." Her voice was quiet. Careful. The kind of careful that made my teeth hurt. "We need to talk about what happens when we land."

"We land, we run, we don't die." I didn't look up from the nav screen. The coordinates Echo-7 fed us were solid, but the route was garbage. Too many checkpoints. Too many places Victor's people could be waiting. "That's the plan."

"That's not a plan. That's barely a wish."

"Yeah? Well it's my wish." I finally looked at her. She looked like hell. We both did. Bloodshot eyes, jumpsuit still damp in weird places, hair doing things hair shouldn't do in zero-g. "You got a better one?"

She pulled something from her jacket. A datacard. Old style, physical lock, the kind that needed a gene-print to open. Military issue.
