Chapter 25 · Neon Trap: The Hunt Is On

"Don't just stand there, move!"

I yanked Cain's arm over my shoulder. His weight nearly slammed me into the concrete.

"Lyra, let go," he gritted out. Blood seeped through his fingers where he pressed his side. "You can't drag me through this."

"Watch me," I snapped. "You don't get to bleed out after I just saved your ass. Not happening."

Boom.

The Core Devourer slammed its fist into the wall behind us. Concrete exploded. Dust and neon sparks rained down as the whole damn building screamed.

"Cain! Left!"

I shoved him hard. He stumbled, caught himself on a busted pipe, and fired. One shot. The pulse round hit the Devourer's eye and the thing howled—not a machine sound. It sounded hungry.

"We gotta go now!" I grabbed his jacket and pulled. "Victor's pet is pissed and you're leaking everywhere!"

"I'm fine," he lied.

His face was white. Sweat beaded on his forehead. Lips pressed thin.

"Yeah, you look great. Real healthy glow," I shot back. "Come on, Enforcer. Use those long legs for something."

We hit the service hatch. I kicked it open and cold, wet air hit us. Neon rain.
