Chapter 20 · You did yesterday
"You did yesterday."
Kane's stare went lethal. "You saw nothing."
"I felt it."
The pain broke loose.
It rushed into Cillian's hand, up his wrist, and settled behind his eyes. He bit down hard. The room tilted. A fork scraped against a plate.
Kane inhaled sharply.
The color returned to his face.
His heartbeat found a steady rhythm.
Cillian kept holding on.
Kane looked down at their hidden hands. His fingers were still tangled with Cillian's. He could have pulled free. He did not.
"You're taking too much," Kane said quietly.
"I'm fine."
"Liar."
"Rich boy."
"Freak."
"Corpse with a trust fund."
Kane's mouth twitched.
The movement was almost a smile. Almost.
Then he turned his hand and pressed his palm fully against Cillian's. Their skin met from wrist to fingertips. Warmth moved between them, too intimate for a room full of watching eyes.
Cillian's breath caught.
Kane noticed.
"What?" he murmured.
"Nothing."
"You felt that."
"I felt the curse."
"Sure."
Cillian tightened his grip. "Keep pushing and I'll stop helping."
"You won't."
"Test me."
Kane leaned closer.
