Chapter 33 · Mirror Match
"Pick one of us," my double said. "Kane or me."
The copy wore my face, my jacket, even the tiny tear near my left cuff. She stood three steps away, smiling with my mouth while the dungeon sealed every exit behind her.
Kane moved first.
His hand caught my wrist and yanked me behind him. His shoulder slammed into mine. Pain flashed through the bond between us, sharp and hot, and his heartbeat kicked against my ribs like it was happening inside my chest.
"Don't touch her," he said.
My double tilted her head. "You say that like you own her."
"He doesn't," I snapped. "And neither do you."
Kane glanced back at me. His eyes were pale with exhaustion, but the grip on my wrist stayed firm.
"Jessa, don't answer her."
"That was an answer."
"You always this difficult?" my double asked.
"Only when something ugly steals my face."
Her smile widened. Same crooked lift on the right. Same little crease beside the mouth. The sight made my stomach turn.
The dungeon had copied my body before. It had copied my voice.
