Drowning Upward

Chapter 25 · Patient Zero Zero

The woman with Celine's face hit the glass hard enough to crack it.

Celine jerked back. Her shoulder slammed into the metal cabinet, and the tablet in her hand clattered to the floor. On the other side of the observation window, the woman lifted her head.

Same black hair. Same sharp jaw. Same small scar beside the left eyebrow.

Same eyes.

Celine's mouth went dry. "Mira?"

The woman pressed both palms to the glass.

"You know me now?"

Ethan grabbed Celine's arm. "Don't get close."

"Let go."

"Celine--"

"I said let go."

He did. Fast enough to tell her he was scared of what she might do.

Fair.

Celine stared through the glass. Mira Soh stood barefoot inside the sealed recovery room, a hospital gown hanging off one shoulder. Thin cables ran from the ports behind her ears into a black diagnostic rig. Her wrists were bruised. There was dried blood under two fingernails.

And her face was Celine's face.

Not similar.
