Chapter 13 · The Ghost Name

"Still trying to play the hero, Kael? Or should I call you by the name on your original birth certificate?"

The voice was like a razor blade—clean, cold, and designed to cut. The Man in White didn't even look up from his tablet. He just stood there in the center of the sterile, white-tiled room, his suit so blindingly bright it made my eyes ache.

I was bolted to a chair, my wrists locked in heavy magnetic cuffs. Every time I breathed, the cold metal bit into my skin. Sloane was three feet away, her arm pinned against the wall by one of the White Suit’s guards. Her jaw was set, eyes darting between me and the man in white. She looked pissed, which meant she was terrified.

"I don't know who the hell you are," I spat, tasting blood. I’d taken a few hits during the capture, and my head was still swimming. "And I don't remember any name other than the one I woke up with."

White Suit finally looked at me. His eyes were a flat, artificial gray. Not natural. He stepped closer, the click of his polished shoes echoing off the walls.
