Chapter 10 · I Pay in Bloodwork
"Sign it now, or I walk out and let them take the building." Ethan's hand was flat on my counter, right over the intake forms, and he didn't blink when I looked up at him.
"Get your hand off my paperwork."
"Sloane. I'm trying to help you."
"You rejected me on a dock in front of forty people six weeks ago. Don't stand in my clinic and use the word help."
He pulled his hand back like the counter burned him. Good. It should.
"The debt got bought," he said. "Whoever holds it now wants a walkthrough tonight. I came to tell you before they showed up and you found out from a stranger with a clipboard."
"How generous."
"I'm serious. These aren't the bank people. They don't want money, Sloane, they want access. Records. Blood logs. Everything you've ever drawn from a wolf in this building."
My stomach dropped, but I kept my face flat. "Why would debt collectors want blood logs."
"Because they're not collectors." He said it low, like it cost him something.
