He Rejected the Medic

Chapter 20 · Port War

"Get your coat," Cassian said, already pulling me off the exam table by the wrist. "The port's on fire."

Water was still dripping off the busted pipe behind us, soaking into the bandages I'd just wrapped. My hands were shaking from the last hour, not from him, and I yanked my arm back anyway.

"Not literally on fire," he said, reading my face. "Ethan's men are there. They're calling it a lease dispute. It's not a lease dispute."

"Then what is it."

"It's you," he said. "They found out whose name is on the dock deed."

I stopped moving. "Whose name."

He didn't answer that. He grabbed my jacket off the hook instead and held it open like I had a choice about putting it on.

"Cassian."

"We'll talk in the truck."

"We'll talk now."

He stepped in close enough that I felt the heat coming off him through his wet shirt, close enough that I had to tip my head back to hold his eyes.
