Heartbound Beyond the Rift

Chapter 67 · It isn't nothing. That's why I'm saying it

"It isn't nothing. That's why I'm saying it."

For one second, the whole station seemed to narrow to his hand on her skin and the space between their mouths.

Then the gate screamed.

Kade was ripped backward.

Evelyn slammed into him and wrapped both arms around his waist. The force dragged them toward the black opening. Her boots scraped uselessly against the floor.

"Let go!" he shouted.

"Shut up!"

"Evelyn!"

She drove the blade across her palm.

Pain flashed bright. Blood welled along the cut.

Kade's eyes widened. "What did you do?"

"Reconnect it."

She pressed her bleeding hand against the metal ring and grabbed his bare wrist with the other.

The bond answered.

A pulse slammed through them both.

Kade cried out. The sound tore through her harder than the pain. His knees hit the floor, and Evelyn went down with him, still holding on.

The Crown feed broke apart into static.

The female voice shouted, "Sever the anchor now!"

"No!" Evelyn yelled. "You want him? Take me too!"

The bond pulled.

Kade's pain poured into her. His shoulder. His ribs. The burning line beneath his skin.
