Chapter 34 · You said he couldn't move
He twisted hard.
The right restraint popped loose.
Victor's head snapped toward him. Kane drove his free hand into Victor's throat.
Victor staggered back, choking. Selena tore her wrist free and slammed her elbow into his ribs.
"You said he couldn't move," she snarled.
"I was mistaken."
"That's new."
Kane ripped the second restraint open and tried to stand. His legs buckled. Selena caught him before his knees hit the floor.
Her arm locked around his waist. Her chest pressed against his shoulder. Heat soaked through the thin fabric between them.
"Stay up," she ordered.
"Working on it."
"You weigh too much."
"You missed me. Admit it."
"I should drop you."
"You won't."
Her breath brushed his ear. "Give me one reason."
Kane turned his face toward hers. They were too close now. Her grip tightened at his side, fingers digging into his jacket. Her eyes held his for a beat longer than necessary.
"Because Victor wants me alive," Kane whispered. "And you hate giving people what they want."
A faint smile touched her mouth.
"That was almost smart."
"Almost?"
"Don't get comfortable."
Victor straightened near the console, one hand pressed to his throat.
