Chapter 47 · You sealed the western gate?

"You sealed the western gate?" Selena asked.

Kane felt the pressure of her arm increase. "Ask him where the survivors went."

"There were no survivors," Victor said.

"Exactly."

One guard took a step forward. "Commander, stand away from the prisoner."

Selena didn't look at him. "Put your rifle down."

"You heard him. Kane is compromised."

"I said put it down."

The guard's finger settled along the trigger guard. Not firing yet. Waiting for a signal.

Kane leaned closer to Selena, keeping his voice low. "The one on the left has a dead channel in his helmet."

"You're sure?"

"I watched him open the blast doors for Victor."

"You watched a lot of things."

"You want proof?"

"I want you to stop making me regret saving you."

Kane shifted his weight and kicked the base of the table.

The black case slid toward the guard.

The guard caught it with his boot.

The red light turned yellow.

"Now," Kane said.

Selena fired.

The shot cracked through the command room. The guard dropped, clutching his thigh. His rifle skidded under the table.

Every other weapon swung toward Selena.

Kane drove his shoulder into her and sent them both behind the command table.
