Chapter 13 · Loopbound - Chapter 13: Only One Remembers

I wake up and Evan's standing over my bed with a summoning rod pointed at my throat.

"Don't move." His hand's shaking but the tip stays level. "I need you to tell me what the hell is happening."

So he remembers. Or he doesn't. I can't tell which is worse.

"Evan—"

"Shut up." He steps back half a foot. Not enough. "You screamed my name last night. Right before the ward came down. You knew it was coming."

I sit up slow. My blood's still sticky on my forearms from whatever the hell I did in the last loop. The cuts are gone but the stain isn't. Evan's staring at them.

"You don't remember," I say.

His eyes snap up. "Remember what?"

"Dying."

The rod dips an inch. He catches it. "What?"

I swing my legs off the bed. He jerks the rod back up. I freeze.

"This is the fifty-third time I've woken up in this room," I say. "You die every time. So do I. So does everyone in this building and six others. The ward collapses at 11:47 p.m. and the whole campus goes down."

Evan's breathing too fast. "You're insane.
