Moonclaim: The Blood-Bound Mate

Chapter 19 · Moonclaim - Chapter 19: The Cleanup List

The waterfront stank of diesel and rot. Ivy crouched behind a shipping container, Leon's hand tight on her wrist. Her pulse hammered in her ears. Across the dock, three figures in dark tactical gear moved between the warehouses. Hunters. She'd know that gait anywhere.

"How many?" Leon's voice was barely a breath against her ear.

"Three that I can see." She twisted to look at him. His pupils were still blown wide from the serum he'd taken an hour ago. Sweat beaded at his temples. "You shouldn't be here. You can barely stand."

"I'm fine."

He wasn't fine. She could smell the chemicals leeching through his skin, could see the tremor in his fingers. But she'd tried to leave him back at the lab and he'd followed her to the car. Fated mate bullshit. The bond wouldn't let him stay behind.

A scream cut through the night. High and sharp. Wolf, not human.

Leon moved before she could stop him. He was fast even drugged, rounding the container and heading for the sound. Ivy swore under her breath and followed. Her boots splashed through an oily puddle.
