Chapter 14 · Her Blood Says Kneel
The glass explodes inward before anyone can move.
I don't even have time to scream. One second Mom's standing there with her hand out, the next there's wolves pouring through the window—big ones, silver-gray fur catching the lamplight, eyes flat and cold. The black-suited man who was with Mom goes down first, throat ripped open before he can shift.
Darius shoves me behind him. His shift ripples through the air, bones cracking, and then he's launching himself at the closest wolf. Kyle's already moving, grabbing the dining chair and swinging it like a club. The safehouse turns into a blur of snarls and breaking furniture.
"Isla, run!" Mom's voice cuts through the noise. She's trying to get to me, but two wolves block her path.
I can't run. My legs won't move. I'm pressed against the wall, heart slamming so hard I taste copper, and all I can do is watch Darius tear into a wolf twice his size. Blood sprays across the floorboards. Something crashes in the kitchen.
Then I see her.
Vivienne Lake steps through the shattered window like she's walking into a gallery opening. Black coat, hair perfect, not a scratch on her.
