Chapter 6 · Don't Let Him Smell Blood

The lights come back on.

Kyle's still got the knife out. My wrist is still glowing. And I'm standing here in borrowed clothes in an apartment that smells like bleach and old cigarettes, staring at a man who just told me I'm supposed to be dead.

"Put that away," I say. My voice comes out steadier than I expected.

Kyle doesn't move. "You don't get it. If Vivienne finds out—"

"She won't." I pull my sleeve down over the mark. The glow fades the second the fabric touches skin. "Because you're not going to tell her."

"I'm not the problem." He finally lowers the knife. "The problem is what happens when Darius marks you. When the bond snaps into place. Every wolf in the city is going to feel that bloodline wake up."

I sit down on the edge of the futon. My legs won't hold me anymore. "So what do you want me to do? Run? You said yourself Vivienne's people are already watching."

"I want you to disappear before Darius does something he can't take back." Kyle sheathes the knife. "He lost Elise six years ago. It broke him.
