Neon Deadline: Assassin's Glitch

Chapter 25 · Neon Rain Hunt

"Move, Kaelen! Left door!" Jax yelled through the comm in my ear.

I hit the door shoulder-first. It blew off its hinges, and a burst of gunfire chewed through the wall behind me.

"You said left door," I snapped.

"That was the left door. The right door was the one with the armed security team. You're welcome."

"You could've mentioned the guns."

"I thought the shooting gave it away."

I dragged him through the doorway before the next burst could reach him. His boots scraped the concrete. One hand clamped over his side, and dark blood leaked between his fingers.

"You're bleeding," I said.

"I'm aware. It's been a pretty distracting development."

A red targeting beam slid across the floor and climbed my leg.

"Down."

I shoved Jax under a steel worktable and dropped beside him. The beam passed over my shoulder. A second later, something punched through the wall where my head had been.

Jax sucked in a sharp breath. "That was close."

"You keep saying that like it's comforting."

"I can stop."

"Please do."

Another shot cracked through the tunnel. Metal screamed above us.
