Neon Hunt: Forbidden Code

Chapter 33 · Don't touch it

He never admitted a blind spot.

The collar clicked.

The key turned by itself.

A thin crack opened in the air above the console. It looked like a line cut through glass, except there was no glass there. Black showed behind it. Not darkness. Depth.

Something knocked from the other side.

Once.

The sound came through the room and through my bones.

Silas reached for the key.

I slapped his hand away.

"Don't touch it."

"You don't know what you're saying."

"I know you want it. That's enough."

"If the sync completes, the Ghost network will have a direct path into your mind."

"And you don't?"

His mouth tightened.

"I have never entered your mind."

"You erased it."

"I blocked access."

"You took my memories."

"I kept them from being weaponized."

"By who?"

He didn't answer.

The crack above the console widened by an inch.

A second knock followed.

Harder.

The floor shifted under my boots. The security lights burst one after another.
