I swallowed. "The one you found."

"Is it yours?"

"Give him to me."

"Answer me."

"Give me my baby."

His hold on the pup tightened, protective and possessive at once. The sight hit me in a place I didn’t want him near.

"You don’t get to call him yours and keep lying about what Cole did," Rayne said.

"I didn’t lie about him. I protected him. There’s a difference."

"From me?"

"From every Alpha who thinks a child is leverage."

"You brought him into my warcamp."

"I brought him somewhere Cole couldn’t reach."

Rayne stepped toward me.

I stepped back into the empty tank.

The glass pressed cold against my spine. He planted one hand beside my head, blocking me in without touching me. His body heat crowded the narrow space.

"You should’ve told me," he said.

"You rejected me."

His eyes flashed.

"I didn’t know it was you."

"You knew enough to humiliate me."

"I knew a false recruit had crossed my border."

"You knew my scent."

His jaw flexed.

I lifted my chin. "Say it. You knew."

"I knew something about you felt familiar."
