"Then stop me."

Rayne's thumb dragged across the wound beneath his ribs. His fingers came away red.

The question hit harder than the gunfire outside the cave.

"You think I can stop you?"

"You cut open my chest. You pulled a curse out of my heart with your bare hands. You bit me and left our bond hanging by a thread." He stepped close, his nose almost brushing mine. "Don't stand there and tell me you can't stop me."

My wolf slammed against my ribs.

His breath carried iron and smoke. The bond pulled tight at my throat, begging me to finish what I'd started.

I pressed two fingers to his chest.

He sucked in a sharp breath.

"Don't mistake stopping you for forgiving you."

"I won't."

"And don't touch my son unless I tell you."

His eyes dropped to my mouth. "You still think I want to hurt him?"

"I think the silver wants to hurt everything that makes you weak."

"You think you're my weakness?"

"I know I am."

His hand closed around my wrist.

For one dangerous second, the cave vanished.
