Rejected Under His Command

Chapter 8 · You want the truth?

Then I looked at Rayne.

"You want the truth?"

"I want the location."

"I want a rescue team."

His brows lowered. "For what?"

"The pup is in the northern woods. Alone. Hidden under the old watchtower ruins."

The words fell into the square.

Every soldier heard them.

Rayne's grip on the chain went still.

The officer's face changed first. He pulled a metal whistle from his coat.

Rayne struck it out of his hand before he could use it. The whistle spun across the snow.

"Don't call anyone," I snapped.

"You just announced a hidden child in front of fifty soldiers."

"I announced a location. There's a difference."

"Not to Cole."

"Exactly. So send people now."

Rayne grabbed my upper arm and pulled me close. His fingers sank into the muscle. Not enough to hurt. More than enough to hold me in place.

"You don't get to walk into my camp, lie about your name, hide a child on my border, and start giving orders."

"Then stop wasting time and make your own decision."

His face was inches away now.

The bond between us pulled tight. My wolf wanted to lean into him. Wanted his mouth on mine.
