Chapter 11 · The Price of the Bond

"You don't get to say no." Kane's hand locked around my wrist and slammed it against the pine behind me. "Not after you let my power tear through your veins. Not after you used it."

The bark scraped my back. His body blocked the path, all heat and hard muscle, while the forest closed in behind him.

I shoved at his chest. He didn't move.

"I didn't ask for your power," I snapped. "I didn't ask for you to wake up and wreck my life."

"Wreck your life?" His laugh held no humor. "You threw Justin's best warrior through a tree."

"He was trying to kill me."

"And you nearly killed him."

His golden eyes burned brighter. The glow spilled across his face, making him look less like a man and more like the monster every pack in the North feared.

My breath caught anyway.

Kane leaned closer. His voice dropped beside my ear. "That wasn't a disaster, Sia. It was a preview."

"Let me go."

"You want to walk away?"

"I want you out of my face."

"Those aren't the same thing."

His grip tightened.
