Chapter 12 · The Hunters Find Us
"Move. Now." Kane's fingers locked around my wrist. "Unless you want Justin's hunters to find us."
I dug my boots into the frozen ground. "Then tell me what this contract is really for."
Kane stopped.
He didn't turn right away. The mist curled between us, cold against my face. Somewhere behind my eyes, that voice screamed again.
*He's lying. He wants your soul.*
I ripped my arm free. "You heard me. What did I sign?"
Kane turned.
His eyes burned gold through the fog.
He crossed the distance in two strides and shoved me against a jagged slab of black stone. My shoulders hit first. Pain shot down my back.
"You're shaking," he said.
His hand landed beside my head. His heat crowded out the cold. "Is it the forest, Sia? Or are you finally figuring out who you belong to?"
"I don't belong to anyone."
"No?"
"The voice said you lied." I shoved at his chest. He didn't move. Not an inch. "It said you wanted my soul, not my blood. So tell me which part of the deal was false."
For one sharp second, Kane said nothing.
That was answer enough.
A slow smile touched his mouth.
