He folded the note once, then again. His movements were too controlled. That meant he was furious.
I moved toward the door.
He didn't block it. He didn't need to. Two guards stood outside, visible through the open archway, both with hands near their weapons.
"Are you going to lock me in my room?" I asked.
"No."
"A cell, then?"
"No."
"What? A prettier cage?"
"You're coming with me."
I laughed once. "Absolutely not."
"You misunderstood."
"I understood perfectly. You want to drag me somewhere private so you can threaten me without an audience."
"If I wanted you helpless, you wouldn't be standing."
"That supposed to comfort me?"
"It's supposed to remind you that I haven't hurt you."
"You pinned me to a wall."
"You attacked me."
"You grabbed me first."
"Because you were hiding evidence."
"Because I have no reason to trust you."
Silas crossed the room in three steps. I backed up until the edge of a table hit my hips.
He planted both hands on the wood, one on either side of me. He didn't touch me this time. That somehow made the pressure worse.
His face lowered. "You think the note is an escape.
