Chapter 20 · Boom

"Say that again." Levi didn't look up from the folder. "Slower this time, so I can enjoy it."

I'd already said it once. I wasn't saying it twice for free. "Kutuzov wants you dead by midnight. He sent the order through the old channel. My channel."

That got him to look up.

"Your old employer." Levi's voice didn't move, but his fingers stopped on the paper. "The one who trained you to break men for a living."

"The one who still owns half my file," I said. "He knows I'm in your building. He knows what room. He's not asking, Levi. He's collecting."

Levi stood up slow, like his knees hurt, which they didn't. It was a thing he did to make you wait. "And you came to tell me this because—"

"Because if I don't do it, he burns my sister's clinic to the ground with her in it." I said it flat because saying it any other way would've cracked something in my chest I wasn't ready to show him. "So you can shoot me now and save us both the drama, or you can tell me what you want me to do about it.
