"Don't touch me." Wren's hand stopped inches from my face.

She stood between me and the vault door, one shoulder pressed against the emergency release. Her silver hero suit was torn at the collar, and a thin line of blood ran from her temple to her jaw. She still looked like the city's perfect golden girl.

I probably looked like the reason she needed a new publicist.

"Ellis, you're bleeding," she said.

"And you're spying on me. Funny how we both noticed something late."

Her fingers curled at her side. "I told you because I want you alive."

"You told me because Cade opened your execution order and found your name beside the trigger."

Cade flinched behind her. He held the black file against his chest like it could stop a bullet. It couldn't. Nothing in this building could stop what my power did once it started.

The vault lights flashed red.

A warning tone punched through the chamber. My palm burned around the stolen shard of starlight.
