He pulled his collar aside.
A dark mark ran from beneath his jaw to the edge of his shirt. The same red lines pulsed beneath his skin, matching the band around her throat.
Sera's anger caught on something else.
"You hid that."
"You would have used it against me."
"Of course I would have."
"I know."
"And you still brought me here."
"I said I was not leaving you. I didn't say I trusted you."
"Good. We agree on something."
Mira cut in again. "Guys, I have less than two minutes before the archive wipes. Pick a direction."
Sera grabbed the front of Kael's coat and shoved him toward the glowing slot.
"Open it."
"The lock needs a blood signature."
"Use yours."

"You ruled this city."
"Not anymore."
"Convenient."
"Sera, stop wasting time."
"You want me to trust you? Give me something."
He reached inside his coat and pulled out a thin black data wafer.
Sera snatched it from his hand. "What's this?"
"A partial command file."
"Partial?"
"The rest was sealed."
"By who?"
"I don't know."
She slammed the wafer against his chest.
