"You said nobody takes my heart."

"That doesn't mean you get to block bullets with your chest."

"It was a good plan."

"It was a stupid plan."

"You like those."

Ayla threw her debt spike.

It struck the lead agent's weapon. Blue light flashed. The gun twisted out of his hand and slammed into the ceiling.

Kade moved before the others could fire. He drove his shoulder into one agent, sent another into the seats, and caught a third by the wrist.

The red line between him and Ayla pulled tight.

His pain flashed through her.

"Kade!" she shouted.

"I'm fine."

"You're not."

"Then do something useful."

Ayla slapped her palm against the floor.

The soul-marks under the train lit up. She hooked the agents' debt lines and pulled.

Their knees buckled.

One of them grabbed the edge of a bench. "Vane, you don't understand what you've done!"

"I understand you picked the wrong train."

"Your brother is already marked for transfer."

"Tell him I said hi."

Kade tore the agent away from the bench and threw him into the open doorway between cars.

Ayla stared. "You could have killed him."
