Chapter 49 · I'm not. I'm telling you what happens if you stay in here
"I'm not. I'm telling you what happens if you stay in here."
"You don't get to care about my brother now."
"I care because I need you alive." His voice dropped, rough against the roar of the train. "And because I was the one who let them transfer him. Hate me later. Move now."
The last word broke beneath the sound of tearing steel.
Dorian pushed through the broken doorway.
The gap opened over a blur of rails and crushed gravel. He went first, dropping onto the narrow ledge between the cars.
I followed.
My boot slipped.
My chest slammed into the carriage edge. My fingers clawed at the metal while the rails flashed below in brutal silver lines.
Dorian caught the back of my coat.
"I've got you!"
"Don't pull me up!"
"You are not falling under this train."
"I said don't—"
He hauled me against him.
My back hit his chest. One arm locked around my stomach, his body heat burning through my coat.
