The Last Current: Reborn in Ashport

Chapter 25 · Stop grabbing me

She turned her face toward mine. We were pressed together in the narrow space, her cheek nearly against my jaw. Her fingers found my wrist and pushed it away from her shoulder.

"Stop grabbing me," she murmured.

"Stop trying to get killed."

"You think you can order me around because you caught me once?"

"I caught you three times."

"The first time was a surprise."

"The second?"

"Bad footing."

"The third?"

Her eyes held mine.

"You got lucky."

"You were looking at my mouth."

Her breath stopped.

Leo looked up between us. "Can we do this after the shooting?"

Mira pushed off my chest. "We are not doing anything."

"He didn't ask," Leo said.

"You want to be carried again?"

Mira glanced at me. "Of course you do."

"He's smarter than you," Leo said.

"Keep talking," she said, "and I'll leave both of you here."

"No, you won't," I said.

The words came out before I could stop them.

Mira went still.

"You seem very sure," she said.

"You don't leave people behind."

"You don't know me."

"I know enough."

"That's your problem.
