Then she shoved me away and kept walking.

I followed because Leo was missing, not because I wanted to feel the echo of her hand at my neck.

The transit gate rose ahead, a metal arch strung with dead advertisement screens. The blue line ended beneath it.

Mira raised her gun.

"We don't go under," she said.

"The signal ends there."

"The gate is open."

"It shouldn't be."

"Exactly."

She moved to the side, studying the dark panels. I checked the upper rails and the spaces between the pillars.

No movement.

No breath.

No Leo.

The silence felt wrong, but silence wasn't evidence.

Mira touched one of the panels. It flickered alive.

A video filled the screen.

Leo sat in a metal chair, fully clothed, wrists bound to the armrests. His face was bruised, but he was conscious.

Mira swore.

I stepped toward the screen.

"Leo."

His head jerked up. "Reid! Don't come in!"

The camera angle shifted.

A gloved hand rested on the back of his chair.

Director Vale's voice came through the speakers.

"There you are."

Mira aimed at the screen. "Let him go."
