Her grip tightened. "If this goes bad, you leave."
"No."
"That wasn't a request."
"I heard you."
"And?"
"Still no."
For one beat, her gaze held mine. Her thumb rested against my collarbone. The armored fabric between us was stiff, but I could feel the pressure of it. She could have shoved me away. Instead, she stayed there.
Leo cleared his throat. "I hate to interrupt the murder flirting, but something is moving outside."
Mira released me and spun toward the rear window.
A black shape crossed the lift platform above us.
Then another.
No company lights. No identification marks.
Mira drew her pistol. "Stay in the car."
"You just said the site was secure."
"I also said stay in the car."
She opened the door.
I caught the back of her vest. "You're not going alone."
"Let go."
"No."
"Reid, if you pull me back again, I will break your fingers."
"You can try."
Her eyes flashed. "That's not flirting."
"I know."
She stared at me, then shoved a second weapon into my hand. "Fine. You follow my lead. One mistake, and I put you down myself."
