She did.

The pistol remained under his chin. Her face was close enough that he could see the tiny silver scar beside her left eyebrow. He had put that scar there two nights ago, when she had tried to collar him in an alley and he had thrown her into a stack of shipping crates.

She had almost smiled while bleeding.

He had thought about that smile ever since.

"One," she said.

Reid moved.

He turned his head, caught her gun wrist, and drove his shoulder into her chest. The shot exploded between them.

Mira's grip broke. The round struck the pillar. She cursed and slammed her forehead into his nose.

Pain burst through him.

"That was cheap," he said, stumbling back.

"You were trying to disarm me."

"I was trying to have a conversation."

"You talk too much."

She kicked his knee.

Reid caught the strike, twisted, and sent her across the narrow platform. She hit the railing, spun, and fired again.

He pulled the Current through his palm.

The bullet stopped.

It hung between them, shivering inside a knot of black-blue light.

"Drop it," she said.
