Chapter 61 · I know you put yourself between me and your own soldiers
"I know you put yourself between me and your own soldiers."
"That was positioning."
"I know you killed the jammer instead of calling them."
"That was strategy."
"I know you keep standing close when you could stand back."
Her breath stopped.
For one dangerous second, neither of us moved. Her knee touched mine. The edge of her armor pressed into my thigh. Her eyes dropped to my mouth and came back up like she hated the mistake.
Then she slapped the jammer against the concrete.
The green light went dark.
Every screen in the warehouse lit at once.
Mira's face appeared on the cracked security monitors, calm and sharp in her company uniform. The recording showed her pointing a weapon at me while a caption marked me as a hostile enhanced fugitive.
A second later, the speakers screamed.
"Mira Quinn has been compromised. Termination authorized."
Mira's face stayed still. Her real hand tightened around my wrist.
"Three seconds," she said.
"You said three."
"I know what I said."
The red beams outside snapped toward the pallets.
"Run!"
I moved.
Mira shoved me through the gap as gunfire ripped the warehouse apart. Concrete burst behind my head.
