Chapter 7 · Point it at the door. Not at people
He stared at the weapon in both hands. "Reid?"
"Point it at the door. Not at people."
"I don’t know how to use it."
"Good. Keep it that way."
The armored hunter charged.
Reid met him in the center of the room. Shoulder to shoulder. Boot against boot. The hunter was heavier, stronger, built to crush through barricades and keep walking.
Reid was running on borrowed muscle and a body that still didn’t know its own limits.
The Current answered anyway.
A pale line flashed beneath his skin. It ran from his palm to his elbow, cold as a blade.
The hunter’s punch came straight for his jaw.
Reid caught the wrist.
The man laughed. "You can’t stop that arm."
"I don’t need to stop it."
Reid stepped inside the punch and turned.
The hunter’s armored wrist bent past its limit.
There was a sharp crack.
The man screamed.
His hand went slack.
For one second, nobody moved.
Leo stared at Reid’s fingers locked around the broken wrist. The Current still glowed under Reid’s skin, thin lines of white-blue light pulsing between his knuckles.
"Let go," the hunter choked.
Reid held him against the wall. "Tell them to stand down."
